After collecting my pencil drawings together I have finally started to convert them to computer graphics. I like the look of the computer colours with my art. Here is the technique used to create this look.
I made an original drawing in pencil. I scanned it and opened the file in the GIMP Image Editor. Using contrast and brightness I enhanced the pencil line. I wanted to make it strong enough to be used in the trace bitmap tool in Inkscape. I scaled the image and saved the file in png format.
I imported it into Inkscape. I used the trace bitmap tool to vectorise. Then I filled in lines that the trace bitmap tool missed. I also made other adjustments by hand such as improving the symmetry. I like to keep the hand drawn look as much as possible. I use a lot of layers. Each feature of the face has its own layer. The colours are placed on a lower layer with the black outlines above.
