I’m a songwriter
I write songs
Its what I do
wouldn’t you

if you knew
how its done
now I know
how to grow

a song from a phrase
a song from a chord
a song from a drum
a song you might hum

The Journey of a Thousand Miles June 19, 2008

There is an ancient saying, credited to Confucius that says “The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step”.

When I take a view of the big picture after taking a few backwards steps from the short view I see each day strung out like beads on a string. Viewed individually each one seems unimportant but seen together they can lead to something big. So each day is a chance for me to move closer to my goals, or drift away.

I can achieve something worthwhile by stepping in the same direction. Each day I meditate on my goal and visualize where I am going with my music and my writing. I am doing something that leads to those goals, I am putting a step in the right direction, another bead on the string.

The journey is more important than the destination. On my journey I met people and talk with them and through my music and writing perhaps I help them on their journey as they help me on mine.

As long as I keep taking that step.

Books and Rain April 29, 2008

I have stumbled in here on a rainy day and decided to sign up and write on. I have noticed that bookshops are very popular when its raining. I would except that libraries would also reap the bounty of wet weather, somehow it doesn’t seem to be the case. Maybe because the library is not as easy to find? I don’t know.

If I managed a bookshop I might get worried about what those wet people with wet things might do to my stock. Now bookshops have become more comfortable with couches and music they are pleasant to visit rain or sun. There is something very pleasant about thumbing through a book that buying online doesn’t match. I have bought books online but usually I already know what they contain. I have bought books that I have discovered in a library, so for libraries help promote the sale of books. It could be that bookshops having also discovered that reading in comfort helps turn a reader into a buyer – no matter what the weather.
